Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

PsiPro Journal uses the American Psychological Association (APA) standards for citations and references. Below are the main APA formatting rules.

ONE AUTHOR

The author's surname should be written with the first letter in capital letters and the rest in lowercase, regardless of whether they are inside or outside the parentheses.

In the text:

(Larenz, 1978).

In the references:

Larenz, A. (1978). A Sociologia Contemporânea. Rio de Janeiro: Vozes.

TWO AUTHORS

When a work has two authors, cite their surnames followed by the publication date every time the reference occurs in the text.

In the text:

Ramos e Almeida (2003).      (Ramos & Almeida, 2003)

In the references:

Ramos, J., & Almeida, D. R. (2003) An Analisys of the Concept of Law. American Journal of Philosophy, 76(1), 151.

THREE TO FIVE AUTHORS

When a work has three, four or five authors, include all surnames in the first citation followed by the date of publication. In subsequent citations, include only the surname of the first author followed by et al. and the date of publication.

In the text, 1st citation:

Ramos, Almeida, Maia, Ferraz e Araújo (2004)

(Ramos, Almeida, Maia, Ferraz & Araújo, 2004)

Subsequent citations:

Ramos et al. (2004)      (Ramos et al., 2004)

In the references:

Ramos, A. G., Almeida, A. L., Maia, J. L., Ferraz, M., & Araújo, P. V. G. (2004). Analisando a lógica do Direito de Hegel. Filosofia e Direito, 14(5), 131-135.

Exception:

If two references with the same year are identical when abbreviated, cite the surnames of the first authors and as many authors as necessary to distinguish the two references, followed by a comma and et al.

Example, 1st citation:

both Ramos, Ferraz and Araújo (1994) and Ramos, Ferraz, Maia and Araújo, (1994).

Subsequent citations:

Ramos, Ferraz e Araújo (1994) e Ramos, Araújo et al. (1994).

USE OF “AND” – “&”

When authors are in parentheses, add ‘&’ before the last author.

In the text:

(Ramos & Araújo, 2003).      (Ramos, Araújo, & Maia, 1978)

When authors are outside the parentheses, add ‘and’ before the last author when the article is in Portuguese and ‘and’ when the article is in English.

Araújo and Maia (2003)          Araújo, Maia and Ferraz (1978).

In the references:

Araújo, J., & Maia, D. R. (2003) Philosophical Introduction. American Sociological Review, 16(2), 311.

Ferraz, A., Maia, W., & Araújo, E. (1978). Uma Introdução à Filosofia de Bergson. European Journal of Philosophy. 10(2), 324.

NO AUTHOR

In the case of legal materials (codes, laws, etc.), cite the first words of the title in the text, or the entire title if it is short, and the year. In the list of references, place the title in the author's position.

In the text:

Law No. 8,112 (1994).      Constitution (1988).

In the references:

SECONDARY SOURCE

To cite a work discussed in a secondary source, indicate the author of the original work and the year, then add ‘as cited in’ (article in Portuguese) and ‘as cited in’ (article in English), the author, year and page of the work used for reference. In the list of references, indicate only the data of the secondary work (material that was used as a means of reference for the citation). In the case of a direct citation, it is mandatory to indicate the page.
